Lynchburg is a great dog town. Between the riverfront trails, fenced dog parks, and a growing number of pet-friendly patios, you and your dog can build a full week without repeating a spot.
Off-leash
Riverside Park Dog Run is the main off-leash option — fenced, shaded, and right next to the riverfront trail so the post-run walk is part of the fun. Bring water and waste bags; both are usually available but don't count on it.
On-leash trails
The James River Heritage Trail is flat, paved, and river-adjacent — ideal for a long leash walk. For something more adventurous, the Blackwater Creek Trail and area hiking spots are dog-friendly with a leash.
